Solar Thermal:  Latento Solar Storage


The Latento is a completely new development in storage technology and has been developed and designed for modern heating systems.

The aim was to build a highly effective and flexible storage tank for modern systems and their specific problems.

Our Latento is not just a hot water or combi storage tank, but much rather a complete system concept.

General Advantages

High Energy Exploitation by Using the Whole Storage Volume

Thanks to the coupling and position of the exchanger, residual energy, which is usually no longer available for heating or hot water, can be used.

The storage tank is also loaded and unloaded much more efficiently. The heating and hot water mode supports the layering in the storage tank.

Increased Solar Yield

Solar energy can be fed in at much lower temperatures via the heating and hot water heat exchanger and use to operate the hot water and heating. The cooling of the solar heat exchanger makes it more effective. The solar collector surface can be made smaller, which means that the risk of overheating in summer and the problems associated with this can be greatly reduced.

Short Reaction Times

Thanks to the layering on the solar, heating and hot water side, the energy introduced is available more quickly and with a better degree of efficiency.


Thanks to its variable, system-specific structure, the Latento is ideally adjusted to every system in order to ensure the best functioning possible. The storage tank is manufactured for the system in question and is thus always a customised product for every building project. This allows connections and operating modes that would not be possible in normal cases.

Stable Layering

The polypropylene core conducts no energy down via the tank mantle, the loading and unloading via heat exchangers mean that there are no eddies and vortices in the storage tank, the layering remains permanent and the heat where it belongs.

Big Temperature Utilisation Range and High Energy Absorption

(Depending on the system) the Latento works in a temperature range of 45°C to 95°C (also in hot water mode). This corresponds to power consumption of 28 kW that is completely available for hot water and heating. Thanks to the use of 20kg latent material, the buffer capacity can be increased by 80 to 100l (in comparison to water). This is done only according to demand because the latent material (paraffin) absorbs energy only when it melts (over 60°C storage temperature) and there is thus surplus power. If the latent material has not melted, it also insulates the storage tank upwards. Comparable combi or solar storage tanks use a temperature range of 50°C to 60°C with 500l content. This corresponds to energy consumption of 5.8 kW.

Best Insulating Values

The storage tank body is made in one piece and comprises practically only insulation (polypropylene and rigid foam). The Latento has no feet that can transfer heat to the base plate. By the same token, it has no connections at the side that lose energy through cable glands and imprecise covers. This leads to the very lowest energy losses, which are up to 30x less than with comparable combi or buffer storage tanks. Especially when small heating energy generators, such as ventilation heating pumps, etc. are used, this is important because the storage losses often consume over half of the generator power; these losses have to be heated up again very expensively.

Long Life and Reconditioning

The material used in the Latento comprises polypropylene (tank body), stainless steel corrugated pipe heat exchanger (hot water exchanger) and copper ribbed pipe heat exchanger (heating and solar area); these materials are resistant to corrosion and ensure a long service life. In the system needs to be reconditioned, the Latento remains and can be converted and adapted to a new heating system if necessary. By removing the lid, the complete insides can be removed in one piece, the position of the heat exchangers can be offset and combined. If necessary, the exchangers can be replaced or added to. The All-Inclusive Control can also be reprogrammed. This saves considerable reconditioning costs.

Ease of Assembly

Thanks to its low weight (approx. 100kg) and the two carrying handles on the Latento it can be quickly and easily transported to any building project by 2 men. Since the Latento has already integrated the system connections, there is no needed for elaborate connecting cables to system components, such as industrial water, buffer storage tank, etc. or corresponding insulation on the pipes and tanks. Immersion sleeves, connecting overlaps, etc. no longer needed to be sealed and screwed in, saving assembly and personnel expense.

Cost and Benefit Side in Procurement and Operation

  1. Little transport and assembly work due to low weight and high degree of prefabrication, no connecting cables and insulation to other tank and industrial water components.
  2. More effective use and economical dealing with the energy input thanks to system optimisation, layering on the solar, heating and water side, as well as low energy losses.
